Algenist Foundation: Review & Swatches.

Algenist is a lovely company that offers both anti aging skin care and makeup products. They use microalgae to help with anti aging, are hypoallergenic, suitable for all skin types and formulated without parabens, sulfates, dyes, sulfates, etc. You can find more in-depth information on their website so make sure to give it a read!

I will do a review on a few of their skin care items in the near future, but want to focus on the makeup side for this post!

Color Correcting Anti-Aging Serum Foundation SPF 1: Fair (Comes in 6 shades)

Color Correcting Anti-Aging Serum Foundation SPF 15 ($38): I really love dropper packaging and the fact they added a squeegee device to help keep the wand clean is great because this stuff is like water! Coverage is buildable light to medium, I could still see a few freckles/imperfections but it did help with correcting redness, reducing dark spots and evening out my skin tone. This is a semi-matte formula, but never looked flat or clinged to any dry areas. When building up to medium coverage the foundation remained very natural and never looked heavy or thick.

The first day I used with only moisturizer and primer to see how well it wore without any other products altering the performance. My nose is oily and there was a bit of shine and breakdown after the 4 hour mark which is impressive considering I didn’t set it with anything.

I have since worn this over the past few weeks with various primers, powders, and concealers to see how it acts with other products. I did notice that if you are using a thicker/silicon-based primer you need to make sure you rub it in well because this will  cling to any excess product!! Other than that, it wore well with everything else I normally use without any issues. Even with setting powders there was a hint of shine on my oily nose at the 4-5 hour mark and product breakdown at the 6-7 hour mark.

Final Thoughts

I am really impressed with this foundation! It offers a beautiful, natural coverage that didn’t settle into pores or the laugh lines around my eyes. I love light weight makeup and this is one of the lightest foundations I have ever used. If you have oily skin this probably isn’t going to be a wise buy, but if you are normal to slightly dry then this will work wonderfully!

Don’t forget to follow my blog and my Instagram for even more reviews!! Thank you for stopping by and have a lovely day!
