NYX has been on a roll with new launches this winter!! I am in no way complaining, because nothing makes me happier than getting my grubby paws on some fun and affordable beauty products!
So here are a few goodies that I picked up from Ulta a couple of weeks ago!
Review
Strobe of Genius Illuminating Palette ($19): This is a gorgeous highlight palette! Seriously, it offers such a wide variety of tones and allows you have either a sweet glow or go a little more dramatic with the lavender and rose gold shades. This palette is what I call a ‘hybrid glow’ in that it does contain glitter so it’s not super subtle but also not crazy intense like some of the other Instagram glow kits on the market. The highlighters lasted all day and never looked like unflattering chunks of glitter thrown on my face.
Perfect Filter Golden Hour Eyeshadow Palette ($20): So this palette has 3 mattes which come in a light cream, mid and deeper warm tones of brown which are extremely useful when creating looks and much appreciated! Overall, I really have no complaints in terms of color payoff, blendability, or longevity of the shadows, just the color selection. For me this is more of a bronzed palette versus a golden one and a few of the colors do appear similar once applied to the lid. The only real dud in the palette would be the top gold shade, which is more yellow when used and lacks any real depth or pizzazz.
Highlight and Contour Pro Palette ($25): This is an interesting little palette. You can either buy it pre-assembled for $25 or pay $15 for an empty palette and customize it with 12 contour/highlight pans that are $5 each, so that would come out to $55 making the pre-assembled a much better price!
The contour shades that were included in the palette didn’t work well for my pale skin when it came to contouring, but were great for adding a bronzed look. The highlighters offered a nice natural glow and weren’t overly dramatic. The formula is not chalky, blended out well, and I liked that you could pop the pans out to utilize larger brushes without any cross contamination!
Ombre Blush ($10): I have been avoiding these bright-colored blushes for a few months, but decided to give this little lady an in store swatch and fell in love! It offers a gorgeous flush of color and glow to the cheeks, while you can get intense with the pay off it can also be subtle. This isn’t powdery, blends wonderfully and lasts through the day!
Final Thoughts
I feel these products performed well and gave me amazing looks every time I wore them. The only downside is that these are on the higher end of the drugstore price range and would recommend watching for the BOGO sales that Ulta offers, not that these aren’t worth paying full price but I know we all love a bargain!
The only item that wasn’t a big hit for me would be the Golden Hour Shadow palette. It was lovely but there are so many similar, neutral palettes on the market, so the $20 price tag just doesn’t seem justified. It is a great ‘bronze’ palette and will be nice in the summer when tan, glowing skin is in!
